Pretty sure this represents a customer service gesture of statement credit, not investment by PG&E
This. Also, they don't need to harden/upgrade all 100,000+ miles of distribution line...
This is a tremendous use of 'oh honey'... The best I've seen in weeks
Politicians are cynically leaning into public confusion about how PG&E is structured/government to obscure the State's ongoing responsibility for allowing under-investment in infrastructure maintenance and hardening
Basically cheaper for a solar setup isn't it? Or at least in much of California, getting more locally created power seems like a no brainer
It certainly seems at least on par, if not ultimately cheaper. In theory, a $15-20k solar system could cost a homeowner $40-50/mo over 30 years. The state could subsidize it even higher—or simply front the costs. Expensive upfront, but more than pays off in the long run.
I just don’t get the PG&E hate. Given that *we* (the voters of California) insist on holding them liable for fires, the outages feel completely rational.
*some* shutoffs were probably necessary. it is also rational to hold PG&E accountable for its corruption and incompetence.
A credit is pointless though if it doesn’t come out of their guaranteed profits, and they just ask the @californiapuc to allow them to raise rates in a few months. #CALeg needs to remove roadblocks to expand local electric for SMUD/SVP, & for SFPUC to buy bankrupt PGE assets
