One thought on California, triggered by @jedkolko: CA is in better shape than the rest of the US. More of the industries with the wind behind them. Fewer of the jobs, proportionately, most at risk.
If anyone can address the issues -- harnessing market forces, etc. -- we can.

Ok but at some point have to question our elected officials? Just seems crazy; one of the richest states in the world has absolutely terrible schools in areas outside the major metros. Widening the divide...

Yes. Easy to say, hard to do. Even in Palo Alto, massive resistance to starting the school day later, which has been conclusively shown to be better for teens...because Football.

we basically let private land values absorb too much of our state's productivity over the last 40 years, w/out reinvesting increment into public infrastructure/education as the state became more diverse.
