What is the good research around the safety of vaping? The vaping ban is up at the ballot this November in SF, and I can't find reliable research. The people I've spoken to who favor the ban just keep shouting "big tobacco" at me. I need numbers.

This was also an interesting study. For every patient who successfully quits, orders of magnitude more people start using e-cigs/vapes.https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0193328 …

Well, there it is: "Based on the existing scientific evidence related to e-cigarettes and optimistic assumptions about the relative harm of e-cigarette use compared to cigarette smoking, e-cigarette use currently represents more population-level harm than benefit."

That's a fair point. I certainly don't like this process, and from what I know of the prop so far, it overreaches.

Counter principle: policy should by default allow the production and sale of any goods and services until a social harm is demonstrated which rises above a certain bar and can be reduced through regulation. Not the other way around.

they are writing in reaction to silly ban created by SF.vaping marijuana and smoking real cigarettes,no problem, but vaping nicotine, which while addictive, certainly hAs less side effects than both mj and combustible cigarettes. and like caffeine, its a powerful neuroproctive

ultimate nanny state shit, especially when SF has so many other problems. SF has low numbers of kids, flavored vape already gone, and there are rules in place to keep kids from buying. also, one could go to marin, south SF, or oakland to get pretty easily. its a useless ban
