My point is to resist the lazy lumping of groups who oppose development for property values reasons and groups who oppose development for displacement reasons into a unified "anti-displacement" label. There is a heck of a lot more going on in land use and housing than that

I agree. It’s awful and deeply offensive when wealthy homeowners say “housing is a human right” while protesting affd housing. My colleague
@HenryKraemer has been raising this for a while. It’s a big problem1 reply 0 retweets 11 likes -

It's also awful when they say this while protesting market rate development and densification in their wealthy neighborhoods. Agree?

Dude my platform calls for building 12 million homes as part of a
#HomesGuarantee, abolishing racist exclusionary zoning regulations, and free public transit with congestion pricing for cars. What part of that do you think wealthy NIMBYs are gonna eat up?2 replies 1 retweet 22 likes -

To whoever thinks Pete is anything other than a friend to the pro-housing movement: you’re fucking wrong. Chill out. He’s skeptical of hyper-financialized housing & the replacement of existing affordable MFH with high-rent MFH (as should we all be) but he’s 100% anti-NIMBY.

Yeah okay but GVSHP is like textbook NIMBY and if he can’t see that idk if he’s gonna be a good ally

sorry we are talking about what is essentially homeowners association in one of the US’s most expensive neighborhoods!!!! the ones currently suing the bus lane project on 14th street, they’re classic NIMBYs!

so he might be one of the good ones, but my naive pattern matching here is slotting him in with the SF "progressives" on these issues because of this. hope to be proven wrong!

I’d suggest reading his writing on housing, which is extensive. Or it’s also ok to dgaf, he’s running across the continent from us.

Whether or not you’d vote for him to be your city councilor is kinda beside the point, too. To my mind, he’d be a basically flawless vote on federal housing policy. Which is really what’s germane here.

National progressives (or progressives in other cities) /= SF progressives! It’s very basic.
