lol no, you can feel the "transient" status in people who move here for work from Day 1. it's made it really hard for me to find long-term/deep friends etc. bc of that -- i can feel people's lack of attachment to this city and its people...

The city’s cost makes it impossible for people to make long-standing commitments to it and the incumbent residents prefer it that way.

Newcomers are basically used to cross subsidize the budget and then are blamed for creating all the problems.

I’m not sure it’s as clear cut as this
. Our budget’s increases are largely useless & long timers are hit hard. I do believe that a massive progressive local income tax would cut high end wages, lower market rate home $, reduce inequality, & better fund infra / affordable homes3 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

How about prop 13 before a tax people can avoid with BART?

Down with Prop 13 too, and the tax should clearly be regional.

SF has a bigger budget then Idaho. Money isn't the problem

Sure, but Idaho doesn’t have the infrastructural, housing, and inequality needs to support a massive influx of new residents at high wages that has driven a wider income gap while joining forces with NIMBYs to drive housing and cost of living expenses up.

The whole system is financially dependent on influx of higher wage jobs; NIMBYs just don’t want to acknowledge that their low property tax basis is shielded/enabled by it. SF was supposed to be running an $844M deficit in 2016. https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/amp/1st-S-F-5-year-budget-plan-draws-daunting-picture-2373448.php …

That’s why Ed invited in tech. Stabilize the tax base against the unfunded liabilities. But it was implicitly done on the back of tenants/non-property owners bc the city needed the jobs for the revenue but the neighborhood’s didn’t want to enable matching housing.
