Also, a minor point perhaps, but lede of this piece is wrong: the birthplace of US industrial + consumer technology is Endicott, NY, home of IBM and its predecessor, the Computer-Tabulating-Recording Company. Shouldn't someone writing at WSJ and editors there know this?
