Very true. Many anecdotes in and around my family of boomers and slightly after trying to retire to the Sierra Nevada foothills (Sonora, Placerville, etc) and continuing to be scared off by fire insurance costs or lack thereof

Nearly the entirely theoretical justification for private insurance of this sort is based on generating/transmitting price signals about the real cost of certain behavior. System working as designed.
