        So, this is part of my beef with this rezoning conversation. Thanks for putting it into words. Also, the fact that none of these people are consulting any architects, urban planners, etc. skewing data to fit their biased arguments is infuriating

        What really makes the US feel backwards and underdeveloped is slavish car dependence and the absence of sensible public transportation, which would be enabled by efficient and sustainable land use

        I've argued this elsewhere, but both of those things - slavish car dependence and absence of sensible public transportation - are direct results of the massive, thorough auto-only suburbanization of the 5 (!) decades roughly from 1945 to 1995.
