“We’ve had this very strange approach to building affordable housing in San Francisco where we only look at a small selection of neighborhoods and leave the rest of the city out,” he said. “It makes no sense, and it hasn’t worked.”https://twitter.com/hknightsf/status/1154026880166555649 …

Spreading affordable housing to more San Francisco neighborhoods requires the Board to legalize building new apartments throughout the city. Until the progressive Board does this, we will continue to "leave the rest of the city out."

We have a initiative on the November ballot that rezones thousands of parcels all over the city to allow for affordable housing development. Mayor Breed has a similar initiative that does most of the same things. I suspect we will have a compromise and get it done!

Matt, why do Supes identifying as "progressive" oppose new housing for the middle-class? Rezoning only for "affordable" housing bars many two-earner working couples from living in SF. And ask Norman Yee what happened when affordable housing was planned for Forest Hills.

Supporting housing that goes up to 20% above median income in the city is definitely supporting middle class. The only difference was that the mayor’s proposal wanted to unilaterally go up another 20%. I represent the TL and SOMA—we still have huge need for low income housing.

Tenderloin already has 8-story height limit so neighborhood isn't really impacted by either proposal. Much of SOMA also 8-stories or more.

Agh, it's weird, distracting, sleight of hand answers like that that drive me crazy! Like here, look over there at those RH-1 parcels that do absolutely nothing!
