The bottom line is in order to get a political win,
@Mayor_Steinberg and @mridleythomas are pushing right to shelter which will greatly increase costs and do nothing to end homelessness. There is also some really funky language that looks like they're going to force people 1/
I’ve heard different interpretations of this language. Obviously the major cities don’t want this at all bc it’s a poor allocation of resources that goes against evidence of the last 30-40 years. OTOH I’ve heard it’s language that forces smaller jurisdictions that do next to

"Forcing local govts to act" seemed the main point that interested one of our local anti-poors regulars the other night when I engaged with him to test reaction on this proposal. But it would be just as possible to mandate housing or shelter without the carceral part of the plan.
