That said, I would also like to observe a behavior that I've noticed is that the city has made it so stupidly expensive to live here permanently that I see more and more cos hire remote but fly people in on a temporary basis and put them in units like this.

And short term agreements like that end up exacerbating some of the existential problems the cities have in the first place— San Francisco is a very big commuter culture and has lost any sense of community that ever existed, which I think Pits people against each other

the city actually has a fairly long history of regulating/fighting corporate short-term rentals, often typically through a private right of action/litigation that predates Airbnb.
