“He followed the city’s transit corridor plan — approved by nearly 70% of voters — and spent $3 million on the approval process, repeatedly altering the project at 601-611 El Camino Real at the behest of residents and city staff.”

That’s actually the most infuriating part. You don’t like a housing development? OK whatever. But you approve 70K jobs and don’t approve a 425-unit project?! That’s practically criminal to your non-property owning voters and adjacent counties and cities of the Bay Area.Show this thread

Can the offending councillor be sued in a personal capacity for reckless dereliction of duty? Because that would be a helpful precedent.

As much as I hate how this guy voted, I don’t see this as dereliction of duty and suing people based on how they vote is a bad idea. Vote him out of office seems the best solution.

The bylaws seem crazy here. An abstention is the same as a vote against? So no parcel within 1000 ft of three councilmember's property can ever be developed?
-
the conflict of interest rules are absolutely absurd since 'no action' has an economic impact on the surrounding properties as well. the only reason for a member of the council to recuse themselves is if they have a direct interest in the project.
