From my understanding, all NYC’s right to shelter provided was it got a lot of the street homeless out of sight, which is probably why politicians are suggesting it. Right to shelter makes them look good. Homelessness in NYC was not reduced at all and tax spending skyrocketed!

That's an argument for people smarter than me. I did find this interesting http://www.streetsheet.org/?p=4072 although not exactly what I was looking for. What I do know is without a path to housing, shelters will not work. Yes, they'll make politicians happy but they wont end homelessness.

@jenloving23 taught me the 80/20 rule. 80% of resources to housing and 20% to short-term shelters with a path to housing. I am not against short-term shelters. What I am against is diverting significant resources way from housing to fund long-term shelters! - 3 more replies
