There absolutely is a housing shortage in the Bay Area, and anyone serious about solving it should be a socialist. The private housing market serves only to profit off of real estate not to meet human need for housing as a right.

My grandfather spent part of WWII in an allied camp for Italian civilians, starved and was shot. With all due respect, ma’am, please spare us the drama. This isn’t a fight that can be litigated on Twitter about the biggest socialist organization in the last century.

most of the people I grew up with were fleeing Communist/Socialist countries for a reason -- because even as idealistic and ambitious as those movements were, they ended up being arbitrary and totalitarian.

Yes, Western European socialist countries are very different from what the USSR was. Doesn't make them any less socialist. Not sure why you assumed that OP's hopes for socialism meant she is ignorant of history of communist dictatorships, or that she was advocating for that.

well what does socialism is the solution to Bay Area's housing crisis mean? Does it mean you're actively expropriating all privately held residential homes? Or only non-market housing can be built in the future (which perversely enhances financial returns on existing real estate)
