I hope the other supes at least come around to where you are. The refusal to even consider removing appeals has been the most frustrating part personally

totally! not holding my breath about compromise but at least I can have a critical view of the proposal I lean towards. what I’m appalled by is this “UESF are boomer patsies” self-justification and to be upfront, it’s making me VERY salty rn

I don’t act like mod-leaning unions (building trades, for example) are selling themselves out by say, supporting SB50. they’re acting in their workers’ interests! to insinuate like that UESF is either stupid or corrupt doesn’t give me ANY confidence in who I’m arguing with here

Teachers and their union leadership have been talking about this issue of building affordable housing on district land for decades. This isn’t a new issue at all for them. They understand this issue well.

if they've been talking about it for decades, why doesn't it exist?

This is such a silly argument. You wrote Burrowing Owls five years ago. Why haven't you solved the housing crisis yet?

no, I'm literally asking -- why does teacher housing not exist beyond the project or two in the pipeline even though it's been discussed for 20 years+ or so?

Probably the same reasons that it takes so long to build anything in this city especially when it's for the most in need? I don't know—I'm 20+ years old. The point stands that insulting the teachers union's intelligence isn't the way to get this housing built.

I think Sasha said anything I have left to say. IMO it’s either hubris, elitism or political convenience for ppl involved on the other side of this discussion to make assumptions about UESF that they are, just as they were made w/r/t Mission groups earlier in the thread

not to get overly emotional but this is exactly what’s been turning me off more and more from the SF “pro-housing” flank for years now. anyway I’m done arguing, here is my cat, sleep well everyonepic.twitter.com/92KRYbVbLs

So they’re stuck in a donut hole. Like $500K/unit local financing gap vs say a 200-250K unit financing gap for a low/very low income unit. While there’s some political consensus to take some bond money for it, diverting large amounts of $ is not feasible given the need elsewhere.
