the more i think about it the more i think California is based on enacting policies to "correct for" more fundamental policies, rather than re-examining those first principles (in this case, keep house prices high and property values soaring)

Without intervention I think likelihood of displacement and majority of new construction in suburbs not served by transit super, super high. Fresno allows higher-density housing by-right along transit corridors and I can’t think of a single project that has taken advantage.

He might have done better than spending money on California High-Speed Rail simply by giving $9.95 billion (Prop 1A cost) to Fresno in 2011 while planning for a $100+ billion program (Phase 1 system cost) to build housing in Los Angeles & San Francisco Bay Area.

This article shows zero comprehension about the facts on the ground. Zoning and environmental laws have made it impossible to build modern housing at sufficient scale. So how can the solution be to build something 1000x more difficult due to the same issues???
