Gauntlet thrown at Bay Area suburban governments. Are they going to stand in the way of 3/4s of a billion dollars worth of housing? https://twitter.com/markasaurus/status/1141046090495430656 …

I'm having trouble parsing this "$1B" number. $750M of real estate - G will still own the land, possibly put money into developing the land, and presumably some % will be affordable, but rest will likely go twd housing for Googlers. The $750 number seems disingenuous at best?

The language in the post literally says it's an investment, the delineation between offerings at different income segments is unclear. I assume that that's something that gets hashed out in community negotiations.

Also affordable housing developers don't necessarily need charitable donations; more impt to have a land acquisition fund that can get parcels at different times in market cycle or fund pre-development of projects before construction financing, etc.
