We all agree the rent is high. We all agree well-paid Google employees will seek housing in the area and drive up rents. We all agree developers are profit-motivated. Who is stopping new housing from meeting that demand? Cuz it ain't Google.

And BTW, Google has literally been trying to build about 6,600 units of housing in Mountain View for YEARS.https://www.mercurynews.com/2019/02/06/google-plans-for-north-mountain-view-come-into-focus-ahead-of-key-city-meeting/ …

So if Google plans to build SV's largest tech campus on public land next to $10B in public transit projects, /w major upzoning from San Jose, why shouldnt we expect them to do like in MV? Community benefits, linkage fee, build 7k or so units & push SJ to add housing capacity?)

Folks need to the report before heading to ideological foxholes. We're asking them to support upzoning for residential, we're not saying Google needs to build it all, just take steps toward getting it done, including themselves making major contributions.https://www.wpusa.org/research/google-rent-hike/ …

Your video puts the blame and onus on Google alone. You don't mention upzoning at all. If even you don't believe that is fair, maybe remake your video so that it more accurately reflect your report. At best, you have buried your lead.

Probably even Google is missing what you're asking them to actually do. Because this is your ask: please
@Google, lobby the government for upzoning. You're literally asking corporations to influence government.https://twitter.com/JRBinSV/status/1139599263892213760?s=19 …Laura Foote 🌃 added,
Jeffrey Buchanan @JRBinSVWe know@GoogleinCA has a lot of political clout & could help encourage@CityofSanJose to upzone residential area near the project, to allow up to 12,450 units. We think it should also making a direct contribution to affordable housing & building some market rate hsing. 4/Show this thread1 reply 1 retweet 6 likes -

I think they are well aware. Google is working /w City to rewrite our general and specific plans and a number of policies to benefit their dev plan for a campus, what's wrong with asking the company to support policy that helps tenants and working families while they're at it?

Why not organize *actual citizens* to join the cause? Literally growing a YIMBY org would be a better use of time than badgering a company that is already doing what you want them to do. We need human beings advocating for housing, not relying on corporate overlords to save us.

We do that everyday. WPUSA has organized base 70k+ across working families, communities of color in SCC & helped lead & win $1B SCC housing bond.
@SVRising brings 1000s of workers, community/faith org members together. We're not asking to be saved, we're holding tech accountable.2 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
Have you told them to email the elected or appointed body that is making these zoning changes to voice their demand for more housing?

I am wholly comfortable with @jrbinsv demanding more of Google, @neversassylaura pushing for zoning changes and me pointing out all the weird structural Californian restrictions (from P13 to California Rule) that create this clusterf*$&. I don't think any precludes the other.
