Spent sometime in downtown San Jose last week and the number of bollard-protected bike lanes has gone up. Heartening.

It’s amazing. I’m in Vancouver right now and there are protected bike lanes everywhere. The whole city feels accessible.

It is a bit hard to compare city to city - since for example in Canada the City of Vancouver is a smaller share of the overall metro area (~27%) than most other Canadian cities (which range from 50% to 90% in the central municipality). That's not to say the City isn't doing well.

Yap. Vancouver is doing great, and I am loving it every day. But if you take Old Toronto, so just look within the pre-amalgamated boundaries with a population a little over City of Vancouver's, you have a sightly higher bike-to-work mode share than Vancouver's.

Vancouver is fantastic for bikes! I remember seeing table tennis set up on popular bike only roads for commuters to play with to break up their cycle and/or add to their endorphin kick

Data's kind of sketchy on a lot of this, but my observation is that the share continues to increase. Broke my all-time record of overtakes on the LGB this morning. The bike lane was full from end-to-end with commuters. Wonderful.

Yep, the expansion of protected lanes is really great (even though we lost all of the parking in front of our office on 10th ave... )
