Transit policy is important. But imho affordable housing should be the priority here. To use the heater analogy above, if the options are "buy 20 sweaters for $1k, or fix heater for $200 and buy 2 sweaters for $100 for esp cold days," then I'd focus on fixing heater (housing).

This is going all in -- at a HUGE cost -- on fixing the side effects of bad housing policy. But maybe lessening housing restrictions would mean we need to spend $20b over 20 years on better transportation instead of $100b. So why not start on the underlying cause?

Distance bay area transit has been broken for a while. Lyft/Uber made things easier within the cities but did not give easy access to more land. Would love to see some kind of innovation here and I doubt it comes from government
