So I want to tell y'all about the REALLY weird adventure I had today: on the @LasColinasTex @VisitIrvingTx APT, the weirdest public transit system I've ever been on. As you can see in the map, it was supposed to have 24 stops, but only 5 were ever built. (1/6)pic.twitter.com/VdyceO8PGs

As someone who lives in London, I'm staggered at the ridiculously low usage stats. Looks a decent bit of infrastructure so wonder why no one uses it 🤔

It does not serve the major employment centers in the area, which are all isolated office parks by the freeways. It doesn't go to Google, Facebook, or Apple, for instance (all of which are huge.)

I am a non driver, have probably been to 10 large tech companies in that area over 20 years, 0 were walkable to the VTA rail. The route is perplexing. I'd love a local like @kimmaicutler or @jdolcourt to explain why it goes where it goes.

Fascinating. I guess land is cheaper away from mass transit infrastructure hence cheaper to build offices there ...

Wait, but if nobody wants the land near transit, why isn't that cheaper? That's the paradox.

I don't think there are parcels of corporate campus-size close to transit and so you'd have to build up... which all of those suburbs are allergic to....

Public transportation is utilized specifically along the CalTrain line. Anecdotally, ridership has boomed in the last decade, with housing along the route equally ballooning. VTA is a sad tale of microtransportation, but it does shuttle people to one CalTrain station
