Federal homelessness counts out yesterday are up 20-40% all around the Bay Area from two years ago. *(Homelessness has more complex solutions but housing availability and its incidence are deeply interlinked).https://twitter.com/kimmaicutler/status/1129171469143924737?s=21 …

This, by the way, is
@portantino's solution to California's housing crisis: a vanity license plate program to drive awareness about the issue. https://www.latimes.com/opinion/livable-city/la-ol-sb50-housing-crisis-portantino-20190517-story.html …12 replies 25 retweets 92 likesShow this thread -
Kim-Mai Cutler Retweeted Senator Toni Atkins
.
@toniatkins had to issue a statement because she's feeling some pressure.
Keep it up. Keep calling. (See the above thread).https://twitter.com/SenToniAtkins/status/1129461273958072320 …Kim-Mai Cutler added,

Where’s
@GavinNewsom? Since we can’t get suburbs to add duplexes, I guess we’ll have to go back to letting Californians build willy-nilly in fire zones!https://www.kcra.com/amp/article/california-gavin-newson-building-in-high-wildfire/27157841 …6 replies 15 retweets 86 likesShow this thread -
I find it hard to believe that
@toniatkins genuinely wants to solve this brutal statewide housing crisis. She also let@MarkLeno’s Ellis Act reform bill die in an Assembly committee five years ago. Thoughts and prayers everyone! http://www.tenantstogether.org/updates/tenants-together-statement-defeat-ellis-act-reform-bill …3 replies 4 retweets 48 likesShow this thread -
Let’s keep hemorrhaging the state’s middle class as this game of cruel musical chairs, in which 500K Californians are born every year but only 80K homes are built annually, continues for another generation. It’s the Californian way! https://lao.ca.gov/laoecontax/article/detail/265 …

YIMBYs need a workable political strategy. Self-righteousness isn't enough.

There was a deal between the senator from Marin County (!!) and Scott. Had passed two committees with near unanimous votes.

I would also keep in mind that
@toniatkins’ bill SB2 to add a $75 fee to generate $2-300M in affordable housing dollars took *eight years*

Sure. But SB50 isn't even very ambitious. E.g. allowing 4-plexes won't get many built. What we need is something with a GNDish flavor that will add a lot of affordable housing in a climate-friendly way. That means, among other things, the state getting into the development biz.

Yeah, I didn't realize that the GND had a workable political strategy instead of self-righteousness.

Sounds like you think the New Deal was also a bad idea early on! Srsly, the point is to make use of synergies between various elements of an overall progressive vision. Why can't we do that with housing policy in CA?
