I'll say this, alliances are how politics gets done. It's ugly and it's never moral, but I think it's at least worth owning up to. I think tenants making alliances with homeowner groups who hate tenants' guts is awfully stupid in the long run, but that's a separate question

the amount of time we’ve spent fighting those folks on the Peninsula (AND the CAA/realtors) for the rent control ballot initiatives in Burlingame, Pacifica, Mountain View etc suggests otherwise

Serious question: who's showing up in the Peninsula to fight against Livable California? I know who I see week in and week out, and who's fighting to create legislation which defangs them

Serious answer: Housing For All Burlingame, One San Mateo, Pacifica Housing For All. They might not be in favor of SB50 (though One San Mateo hasn't taken a position yet) but they're all good groups and they definitely don't support Livable CA.

What I was getting at was the vagueness of "we," when I see a true crisis in regional tenant solidarity. I want there to be a "we", but I don't see it now unfortunately. But thanks for highlighting these groups

thanks
@cafedujord, those are exactly the groups I work with in my job and who I’m so defensive of in these conversations. I hope you guys understand that.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -
Absolutely. They're all near and dear to me and I'll defend them even when I completely disagree with them and/or they drive me crazy. Cindy and Suzanne hate NIMBYs as much as I do.

That said, I do think tenant advocates on the Peninsula differ from SF groups in that they've never shied away from acknowledging that there really is a huge shortage of units, even market rate ones, and that negatively affects lower income folks. This is circa 2002.pic.twitter.com/HhmRW1utvP

SF is currently pacing ahead of its above moderate RHNA goals and failing everywhere else, we have a different issue here

I am so tired of non-enforceable, easily gamed and inadequately funded RHNA targets being trotted out. https://www.lewis.ucla.edu/2019/05/10/rhna-flawed-law/ …pic.twitter.com/g8JEGyIPwt

I think SF would be out of compliance in this scenario as well, but one could obviously make urban cities' targets higher.pic.twitter.com/eJF5ITA6um
