They’ve installed a few dozen houses at this point? I live near one. It was $50K in upfront costs, which is a lot for more rural areas with rural incomes.

We cannot expect homeowners to bear this. This needs to be a public-private venture. Every roof maxed out. Rate pay based on consumption and goes toward who finances, maintains the system + mgmt fee for grid connection and operation. End paper bills + more streamlining.

There might be a case that only the less-populated rural areas need localized generation. The power line that started the Camp fire was a 115KV line, not the large >200KV lines used to connect remote power plants to urban customers.
