An interesting question SF needs to ask itself for the next 10-20 years is whether it wants to become a Big Tech company town or whether it wants to continue having smaller startups.https://twitter.com/TayTaySF/status/1120499924368539648 …

Kim-Mai Cutler added,
Isn’t the area already becoming Big Tech monopoly? That’s the market forces everybody loves. Once it was IBM, GE, Texas Instruments.
Not really. There were lots of smaller-ish cos for about 20 years or so.
But now there’s Apple, Google, Facebook, and a few more very large companies. I foresee the rate of startups declining especially because these companies will be controlling the market. Also, there’s only so much ‘disruption’ that can take place.
Plus there’s only so many ways to redo what already exists. A lot of what these startups are doing is applying today’s tech to yesterday’s. Like the first wave of change to online shopping/consumerism, this wave will normalize.
Frankly, we need less of a startup culture and more of a culture that respects the people that are rooted in the city. SF is going to continue down the path of becoming a city without teachers artists, and diversity. A playground the rich.
I’m not disagreeing with you. There are also deeply underlying financial/structural issues that have caused the city to make the choices that it has over the past 30 years.
Yes, cynical attempts to retain political power by progressive SFDCC operatives— SF residents & culture be damned. None of the chaos would have been tolerated by City Hall, @SFDAOffice or @SFPD back in day of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, the year before Ronald Pelosi was elected
