Huh, interesting that Menlo Park, which did not grant permits for a single low-income housing unit from 1992 to 2007 and failed to update its state-mandated plan for affordable housing for ~20 years and lost litigation bc of it, opposes #SB50! https://twitter.com/HowardKushlan/status/1120781604081692674 …

Menlo Park mayor says "state would do better to work with local jurisdictions and help to address barriers we face in responding to the affordable housing crisis." (Menlo Park broke state housing law for 20 years.) https://www.publicadvocates.org/our-work/housing-justice/affordable-housing/peninsula-interfaith-action-et-al-v-city-menlo-park-menlo-park-city-council/ … https://almanacnews.com/news/2012/05/17/menlo-park-settles-housing-lawsuit …pic.twitter.com/52RDSE5hGe

Similar to Monterey/Carmel opposing development and historically African American community of Seaside and Marina wanting to build more housing. Although demographics have changed dramatically in last twenty years.

The Bay Area spends so much time and energy forcing everyone else to deal with problems that are often only crisis-level in the Bay Area itself. This is fine if it's opportunity cost for absurd apps, but the rest of the state may have very different feelings about
#SB50. -
If a part of a state has adequate housing, why would developers build more there? I think your fears are misplaced Any part of the state, LA, San Diego, have unsustainable rents that’s a sign that more housing needs to be built, that hasn’t been built, and SB50 is needed there.

How is this surprising? Poor areas want the rich area to enjoy less benefits. The difference between Palo Alto and East Palo Alto is enormous.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out in EPA. Woodland Apartments is now owned by Sand Hill, and they already have plans to replace low density apartments with 600+ units in 8 story towers. SB50 will be a green-light to replace all apts on Woodland with modern towers.
-
SB-50 would only apply to redevelopment of the apartments if they did not have tenants within the last 7 years.
