Everyone is chill about the end of the CA drought except fire scientists. "In a month and a half that beautiful green grass crop is going to cure and turn the hills golden, which is eventually going to turn the hills red with fire."

Any new information or changes you can share compared to last year?

Not really. Just did bunch of precip comparisons between this year & last two & really see boomerang w/ wet winter in 2016-17, much less 17-18, & now back to wet. Shows extreme variability, but how effects fire in any year is complex, too early to say. But that grass growth...😬

I am not well informed on this topic so perhaps this is a naive question. Would it help to reduce the number of invasive species of grass, shrubs and trees that we have in California? One type of native, tall foothill grass is completely gone for example. Also city design...

Perhaps but that is also highly politicized. There are lots of defenders of non-native, explosive, highly flammable trees *cough* eucalyptus.

I know! It's ridiculous. Our neighbors almost go up in flames every year along with the rest of us. But when it comes to those "beautiful Eucalyptus" they just can't accept that they are not beautiful but extremely dangerous.

Eucs are time bombs waiting to go off. There's a tiny, vocal group that wants to keep them, but the majority is more prudent. #euclife
