I was not in the chorus of people whining about @aoc, @ewarren or @berniesander's calls for higher marginal income or wealth taxes, but I honestly have no idea how we would do this and how it wouldn't have negative impacts on business formation, entrepreneurship.
I’ve read Mazzucato’s book. The R&D stage, while impt that the US federal govt doesn’t retreat from, is really not the same thing as the stage when tech is unproven but possibly commercializable. The govt doesn’t fund these later stages.

If you want foreign cos to dominate global tech markets and to cede leadership to them given that they’ve now duplicated the venture model over the last 20 years from the US, cool, this would be one way to do it.

This is a massive strawman but I think you know that. There is a large degree of separation between MTM taxation and getting blown out by global competitors

I’m very aware that the government doesn’t fund late stage development (although one could make a persuasive argument that it should). The fact remains that many VCs and companies funded by them benefit from things they had no part in creating
