I have often said the key (grand bargain) to addressing concerns about displacement is tenant protections. Fortunately, they have been introduced by Chiu Bonta, and others and backed by ACCE and SEIU. Support those: https://www.acceaction.org/keepfamilieshome …

Yes, he has said he supports these tenant protections. Can I chime in here, as a co-sponsor of the tenant package and a (caveated) supporter of
#sb50? There's a lot less disagreement than you seem to think btwn equity groups and Senator Wiener.1 reply 0 retweets 12 likes -

It's not super useful to pit different factions of the pro-housing coalition against each other. It makes it easier for people like Gordon Mar and the Vice Mayor of Beverly Hills to hide their mendacity.

You undid your whole claim calling Sup Mar mendacious. He’s spent decades fighting for low wage immigrant workers, tenant rights, and affordable housing. If you dismiss him, you’re being mendacious.

Uh, his willful misrepresentations about
#SB50? I’m definitely open to learning more about the rest of his career though. But do mansplainers gotta mansplain when WOC from the East Bay actively working on tenant issues and split roll reform pipe up?2 replies 0 retweets 19 likes -

I think we should upzone District 4. but dude literally ran Jobs with Justice, maybe trying to paint someone who has a long reputation of community organizing with some of our city's most marginalized people as some kind of cartoon villain, isn't the best way to go about this

I'm personally rooting for the 55 groups that have very thoughtfully laid out what their current issues with and suggested amendments to SB 50 are. but also the knee-jerk "if you don't support it full stop rn you're just like Atherton" isn't actually helping that advance at all.

as noted, many of the objections to 827 are actually being discussed as amendments to 50. but at the time, the people responsible for pushing the changes you see in SB50 today were lambasted with the exact same arguments made in this thread, and by the same people.

This argument deserves some credit but not 100% bc last years “purist” bill was so obviously a ploy/strategy (not mine/not one I would’ve done myself) to not concede anything upfront to test what diff parties’ sticking points were for following sessions.

fair enough, although I'll note that was also the strategy for 25% IZ ;)
