(Yes, I know the funds of @OurHomeSF actually depend on state level rulings that determine whether simple or super majority voter approval is sufficient.)
That said, LA had this exact problem. $1.2B bond & nobody wanted shelters near them.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/29/us/homeless-housing-los-angeles.html …

@kimmaicutler disregarding NIMBY bs, there’s another great reason to build somewhere else. That land is so insanely valuable they’d could sell it to a developer and use the proceeds to build a far larger center in a less expensive area. It’s not about NIMBYism but ROI. -
It’s port land. We’re not selling the port.

This story left out an important fact: This neighborhood already has one city navigation center as well as a homeless shelter only 5-6 blocks from this proposed site on the Embarcadero. These residents already said yes once. SF is 49 sq miles. Time for the rest of SF to help.

The second or third speaker was literally a guy from a different neighborhood association in a different neighborhood that had such a positive experience with a nav center that they voted unanimously to extend it for several years.https://twitter.com/sf_hsh/status/1105833999262511105?s=21 …

Well the premise of the tax was that someone else would pay the $$$ and regular people would do nothing so it's not exactly surprising ...

My experience in Dogpatch is that our Nav center has been a win for the community. More responsiveness from the City and less encampments. Cc

So disappointing. This one kills me: “We’re all for helping people, but why can’t we find another neighborhood to host this Navigation Center?”
-
This is an uninformed comment. D6 already has the 5th & Bryant Navigation center, the needle exchange at 6th & Mission, the city clinic on 7th & Folsom as well as many other services. D6 has done its part. Time for other neighborhoods to step up
