I remember talking to a guy who had a tent near where he used to have an apartment around ATT Park after his wife got diagnosed with cancer, which put them into medical bankruptcy. After she died, he lost both his wife and his housing.

So incredibly sad, and the connection makes sense. Is this because they didn’t have health insurance at the time?

If you read the Kaiser study, it literally says almost half of people burn through their life savings if they’re diagnosed with cancer *even if* they have health insurance.

Think about it. You don’t work, so you lose one income-earner and possibly two because the other person has to care for the patient. Then there’s high deductibles, medical billing errors, etc.
