Germany is a 60-40 renter-property owner country nationally and it didn’t decide to offer/subsidize its social safety net via homeownership (for some but not all) in the postwar period.

daycare costs are also heavily subsidized... parents get subaidy for kids... there's no single family zoning... it's pretty hard to go bankrupt due to medical costs... they are starting a program to subsidize families buying or building housing (baukindergeld) i could get intopic.twitter.com/cF44xlUqev

Eh... it’s more like the voter preconditions are there to have majority power/voting bloc for those priorities, whereas in the US, the majority is bought/vested into a system where property values have to keep rising.
