one side effect is that HSR could really be about preserving the property value of Santa Clara Valley homes.

It would be bitterly ironic if NIMBYs become the greatest champions of whatever allows the hordes to enter and exit their communities as quickly as possible. It's like what if Saratoga and Cupertino had realized maybe 85 should have light rail down the middle....

The idea makes sense but the execution totally not. Should have started from San Jose and build south, and let the train run as soon as line reaches Gilroy, then keep going.
