Trying to learn here. So one side screams “Venezuela!” as a response to socialist left arguments, the other side yells “Denmark!” back but not really responding. Is there a good article from the left refuting the Venezuela argument & from the right refuting the Denmark one?

How about... there are infinite varieties of the way the market and state can interact so we should evaluate things on a policy by policy basis?

The first thing to remember is that America is almost completely wrong with its labeling of socialism. High tax, high service economies like Denmark are not socialist for the simple fact that they have thriving market economies.

American hasn't had like a left, social democratic party in ages, so our scales are warped. Whatever is conservative/Tory in the UK has long been more like.... centrist Democrats in the US.

Yeah, totally messed up on yourself side of the pond. But part of me thinks your 'Democratic Socialists' aren't helping themselves by adopting the label. They'd have cross party appeal if they just said "it's a fairer kind of capitalism" or something.

I think the situation has become so dire for many that that rhetorical break isn’t strong enough given our current political (maybe even eventually Constitutional) crisis.

Not speaking for myself, but trying to empathize with POV of others.
