I mean Marxism is ultimately an international political economy theory. how it translates locally can be lots of tactics and strategies that we argue over amongst ourselves all the time

the challenge is that the US is littered with the corpses of socialist orgs who said “there’s one way to do this and that’s it”. DSA itself has a katrillion tendencies already, but we have to build power the left doesn’t have b/c it’s been in the wilderness for a half century

omg I forgot my favorite one that I read in 2018: Four Futures by Peter Frase https://www.jacobinmag.com/2011/12/four-futures/ … (this is a shortened version of a short book that is worth reading in full)

Four Futures is great. I kinda think that using past attempts at socialism/communism as visions into the future is misguided. New tech affordances in an increasingly globalized world make precedents mostly irrelevant, for better or worse. What a weird convo this is!

I’m kinda maybe too tired to understand that thread. It’s like I literally can’t understand the language it’s using right now.

Wait, now I read it again high and I think I get it. You have anything else that’d explain sorta this in... non-tweet thread terms?

I mean if I were to oversimplify it, I think it means that modern data/information systems afford centralized forms of government a granularity of feedback/information loops & control that didn't exist before.

the kind of feedback that prior systems lacked and eventually veered into more totalitarian directions to compensate for. (But then again, Xi is taking China in a much more authoritarian direction than it has been over the past several decades).

Danger of ‘big data’ within a unified theory of knowledge? I think we all want system that is scientific without being authoritarian. The Party must also pretty worried about social cohesion, don’t you think? Shame Chinese leadership has gone full on authoritarian.
