But a solid local paper is a fun vanity project for a rich person with ethics and a thick skin. We do have a lot of rich people here! I dunno about the other stuff.

Here’s another question, why wouldn’t we just
@berkeleyside it and do a direct public offering + membership? Oakland has 3-4X the population even if median incomes aren’t the same. We’re talking what - there were 3-4 reporters left? Or were there more?3 replies 0 retweets 9 likes -

One would have to deal with current ownership and their debts first, which are onerous. And this is what former EBX staffers have to say about management:https://twitter.com/Fartzenpooper/status/1084194515240382464 …

In an ideal world, I would support a reporter-owned local co-op. But who knows what those folks want? They've been through the ringer over the last year at least at EBX. I wouldn't blame them if they want to move on either.

There are literally thousands of Google and Facebook multimillionaires running around the Bay area.

TBH, I don't think that many of them live in the Eastern half of the Bay, people at that liquidity level, let's say. They live on the peninsula or in SF.

if they don't live here, they probably don't really care. The people who live in the East Bay who work for Google/FB are people who can't afford SF or the peninsula, so I don't think they have millions lying around.
