@sfbos prob rubber stamps whatever@sf_dph says. TLDR: SF General's payer mix is more than 80% Medicare/MediCal and private hospitals often don't take govt insurance from low-income patients. Has anything in my years of commentary on this site suggested that I am anti-dovernment? :) SF has a unique culture in many of its services where it wants to do the right thing to make it work for the lowest-income populations but then sometimes

Wait. Doesn’t this violate CA law on user fees? If the City is setting rates extra high so as to recover the costs of the patients who can’t afford to pay, then by definition the fee doesn’t reflect the reasonable cost of providing services?
