I don't think this works... Twitter has become a more public space in that time. So 10 years ago I might have felt right or wrong I was whispering to friends and a few randos lost in the noise while today when I make statements I assume they could be quoted in the news

I dunno, I see people openly talk about issues like class warfare, racism, sexism, and corruption/abuses of power much more openly now than before. The tone is much less civil now so maybe that's where the feeling for the need for self-censorship comes from, though.

Having more of a filter is often a good thing and something we learn through age and experience. I cringe at stuff I wrote in college for example.
