Not so. We have a societal obligation to ensure those who consume the "commons" share in the burden of its consumption. The BOS is as good a choice as any since it is democratically accountable. There is ample evidence of regulatory capture when accountability is lacking.

You don’t want your president arbitrarily setting interest rates to win elections, just like you don’t want a supervisor trying to raise the % inclusionary rate (albeit there was a trailing technical committee) to win a State Senate race, which is exactly what happened.

I don't like developers funding election victories either. But I do like political discussion of what is an appropriate cost to buy into an existing experience - which is what happens when developers build in a specific area.
