I view interpretability differently than transparency. Transparency implies, at the least, access to a black box version of the algorithm to test bias. I agree with LeCun that interpretability with complex algorithms is very difficult if not impossible.

At this point the closest parallel is insurance risk modeling. Imagine putting insurance co state filings into plain language. (I’m assuming you mean why you were shown something and not the voracity of the content or source.)

For content distributed via ads or organic means in social media, transparency could be to show succinct reasons why someone is being shown that content to help build trust. We're solving some of these problems
