I'm not sure how true this is across Japanese railroads. I'm not disdainful, I'm just realistic about what it can and cannot do. What it can do (if redesigned to be a logical route): make travel between LA, SF & Sacramento a lot more environmentally friendly and pleasant. What it can't do: pretty much anything else

It could also probably make travel to the Central Valley a bit easier, if I-5 (vs. 99) through CV turns out to be viable. Although experience abroad shows that this probably won't help the Central Valley as a whole gain economic power (although it could improve their downtowns)
