seems contradictory for some sub-segments of conservative thought to argue that corporations/businesses have a right to free speech (as in Citizens United/Masterpiece Cake Shop) and then be upset/play the victim card when cos establish codes of conduct around speech.

Only if one examines contemporary politicians through the prism of some kind of consistent ideology. When one look at it instead as a nothing but series of tribal skirmishes with heavy in-group/out-group signaling it makes perfect sense.
