seems contradictory for some sub-segments of conservative thought to argue that corporations/businesses have a right to free speech (as in Citizens United/Masterpiece Cake Shop) and then be upset/play the victim card when cos establish codes of conduct around speech.

Sure, and I suspect we'll see more of this(especially in the EU). The case with Gad is completely different though. Patreon didn't ban him out of fear of legal risk, they banned him either b/c as Sam says they are politically motivated or b/c they are scared of backlash.
