I saw Ilhan Omar use the phrase "social justice warrior" a few days ago, almost in a sense that she was reclaiming the words back. But that's like the only time in the last several years where I don't feel like it's been used in a pejorative sense.

"SJW" is not a pejorative aimed primarily at white people. In the context of college campuses, at least, the targets of the rhetoric are much less likely to be white than the people deploying it. If you want a term to mock a particular configuration of whiteness, this ain't it.

It's the exact opposite. To the extent campus SJWs have had any success re Title IX, they've mostly targeted black students.

FWIW, my observation about the term's actual life isn't some conceptual prior on my part, it's how I see/hear the term used on the college campus where I work.

Okay, so to clarify, my familiarity with the term's actual use is in fandom rather than uni campuses (I left US unis in 2012).

Also, explaining your definition of the term is limited to what appears to be a very narrow and specific subculture, why would you assume it's useful to describe a subject position in Bay area housing politics.

The reason I think it detracts from your otherwise sound and correct point is that the segregationist tendencies you describe apply, to varying degrees, to a wide variety of subcultures and subgroups across the left, not just to those who are are most likely to be called SJW.

The reason I overspecify to SJWs is that a majority of the left half of the US political spectrum just doesn't think about these issues.

It's not just RPGs but also video games and board games, but yeah. (Poker is as far as I can tell 100% culturally distinct from fandom.)
