there's actual real demand to live out that way and meeting it could provide some options for folks. something not mentioned enough is the political dimension for progs. the sunset & W of Twin Peaks are among the city's most conservative areas. getting more tenants there=good

Yes, these are the areas I’d like to see upzoning. As well as the silicone valley where all the massive tech offices are at.

Yes! Mountain View and Cupertino have both added THOUSANDS of jobs and ZERO housing. There’s no reason those couldn’t be thriving cities with lots of apartments and lots of night life if we’d just develop them. Instead it’s adding gentrification pressure to SF and Oakland.

um, we need more help here actually. Lenny Siegel, who paved the way for 10K units in Mountain View, was elected out of office this Nov. Then Cupertino threw out all the people who negotiate for housing to be built on Vallco a few weeks ago.

organize your Google colleagues to keep pressure on
@mtnviewellen and@alison4council to follow through on Bayshore housing and housing across the rest of the suburb. Ellen sounds friendly, but can't hurt keep the issue at the top of the agenda.1 reply 1 retweet 4 likes -

I’m on health leave, and I don’t work in Mountain View so I don’t think I’ll be very effective on this front. I’ll pass on the message though!

Mountain View resident here. Pat Showalter and Lucas Ramirez will buildout North Bayshore. Ellen has previously been against this. Also Lenny pushed measure P our head tax on big employers.

Is the head tax why he was voted out or what’s your read on that situation?

I think his compassion for RV dwellers, his strong position on protecting our rent control and his leadership on north bayshore left him with few allies. Tech and NIMBYs weren’t very happy with him. Also he took forever to finally campaign

@mporat this is what happens to publicly elected officials who side with the homeless over companies and homeowners. If you want things to be different, then support candidates in your community with your votes, time, social capital and/or money.

I don’t think that’s the case. It’s really easy for incumbents to get complacent and get beaten for not campaigning hard enough. Nation-wide, this wasn’t an election friendly to incumbents. Sounds like that may have been the case in MV.

Lenny was a 1st timer so I don't think complacency had a chance to set in.
