These were all things done intentionally to shrink govt that ended up being less cost efficient for everyone and hurting really vulnerable populations.

Real estate/property markets and the state are inextricably linked. You have to have a governing system backed up by the use of force to credibly award a person or entity with a legal monopoly over a piece of land.

no it doesn't. The state only owns 2% of its forests. Almost half of the land is owned by private individuals and half of it is owned by the federal government.

I should know better than to debate someone who runs "Blockhead Factor" but markets are embedded within states/governing systems. States shape public and private incentives of individual actors and of general market behavior.

Omg. Market & govt do not exist in separate silos. Lots of people lived there *because* the rest of the state is unaffordable, *because* a generation of "free market" buyers of real estate then coalesced and used entrenched political power to zone out their communities.
