Same - seems like cooking is evolving from necessity to hobby. Personally, I love cooking and do it often, the same way others might play video games or edit Wikipedia articles. Related:

100%. I was just going to remark that some people do sew as a hobby and it's an important part of their lives, self-expression, identity. What I see re: cooking is that it's becoming a private artistic pursuit - much easier to excel at it and then share with friends than music.

Its interesting because I feel that cooking is going to be for the people on the two ends fo the economic spectrum (those that are wealthy enough to make the choice but choose to cook for health/enjoyment reasons) and those that have no choice but to cook in batch to save money

Seems like the people in the middle will end up continuing the 'mainstream' trend which is to go out and eat in droves.
