Often when people think their governing institutions are incompetent (or in this case a quasi-public/private utility), it’s bc the people themselves haven’t given a clear mandate (& necessary resources/$ for that mandate). The options are expensive. Powerline undergrounding is $4-5M per mile in the Bay Area. Tree removal is $2-3K per stump.

I mean... think about what it takes to take a 50+ ft tree down when there are a bunch of other things and people's real estate all around it.
