I’d wager opposing everything (including a law that didn’t actually create new rent control) for being insufficiently centrist is a great recipe for more crisis

maybe propositions should actually do something - organizing around "a law that didn't actually create new rent control" is bizarre. prop 10 offered nothing to renters outside of the 15 cities with rent control.

Just to repeat, there was local organizing around rent control in several places running parallel to Costa Hawkins repeal.

2 municipalities went to the ballot, 7 tried to go to the ballot, 2 had to stave off local mini-Costa-Hawkinses at the ballot or doing signature gathering, and 1 is going to the ballot in 2020

Overturning Costa-Hawkins is important for rent control in the Valley, as a lot of units are single-family homes. Indeed Blackstone, Colony et al. bought single-family homes because they were exempt from rent control.

CH is not the only impediment to rent control on single family homes in the central valley, to say the least. many of these places will only see any form of rent control as statewide policy or not at all.

I think a law prohibiting the expansion of rent control to single family homes is a pretty strong impediment for expanding rent control to single family homes

What we need is a consensus that Sacramento needs to disincorporate Cupertino
