I don't either, but media does and thats what many candidates were reading. YIMBYs had been vindicated with Breed's "yes in my backyard" speech and explicitly backing building housing. Yimbys got a lot of media attention and the progs certainly noticed.

Generalizing from a small number of data points, a lot of DSA are pre-2013 tech workers (2013 as sort of the inflection point between "oh god the housing crisis will doom us all" and "oh god housing prices will doom us all")

I’ve been railing against the idea that “tech workers” are some coherent political class grouping for years. But, as with many things I say, people usually manage to ignore it.
